Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology
Department of Pharmaceutics at KBIPER is headed by Prof. P. K. Shelat. Dr. Shelat has worked for more than a decade in industry and since then in academia. Additionally there is one professor, 4 associate professors and 1 assistant professor in the department. All the members strive to give quality education to B. Pharm., M. Pharm. (Pharmaceutics) and Pharm. D. students. Two of the members are university recognized Ph. D. guides and all are recognized post graduate guides. Additionally the members either co-ordinate key committees framed for the normal functioning of the institute like IPQAC, Examination or are members of the committees.
The emphasis is on the research. The department has been successful in attracting grants from AICTE, DST and GUJCOST. The members of the department have done projects for a number of industries. The members have number of papers in reputed journals having high impact factors. Additionally the department has been granted a few patents that are in different processing stages. The department has embarked on various areas of pharmaceutical research ranging from fast release, immediate release, controlled release to novel drug delivery system including nanoparticle based system.

Few other important equipment includes laboratory scale coating apparatus, multipurpose drive, and a number of in-house developed testing apparatus. The aim is to develop the department as a centre of excellence and build capacity so as to give service facilities for high end testing. Services like formulation development, excipient evaluation, performance testing, stability studies etc have been catered to Azafran Innovacion, Lincoln Pharmaceuticals, Claris Lifescience etc.
