Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy
Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy at KBIPER is headed by Dr. Shrikalp Deshpande. Department started its journey in the year 1995 as a department of pharmacology. Since then it is supports and caters the educational and research needs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Department expanded its wings in clinical domain by providing post graduation in clinical pharmacy in 2010. The department is functioning through its very well qualified staff including two professor, four assistant professors and six lecturers. All the members are dedicated towards providing quality teaching learning activities to B. Pharm, M. Pharm and Pharm. D students.
The department is oriented towards research both at animal and human levels. Some of the areas of research work are experimental pharmacological screening (Cancer Cell Line, Asthma, IBD, Diabetes, Atherosclerosis, Arthritis, Oxidative Stress, Hepatoprotective, Anti thrombotic, Anti-ulcer, Neuroprotective, Erythropoietic, Anti-epileptic, Probiotics, PCOS). In clinical pharmacy and practice, it involves research in the areas of drug related problems, pharmacovigilance, antibiotic resistance pattern, patient counseling, medication errors and medication adherence. The department has its own Institute Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) and Animal House registered from CPCSEA, New Delhi. First pharmacy institute in Gujarat state where Ethics Committee (KBIEC - K. B. Institute Ethics Committee) is registered from CDSCO, New Delhi.
The department has its own Drug Information Centre (DIC) established at the nursing college of the university in the GMERS hospital premises. DIC is an integral part of clinical pharmacy wing of the department. DIC caters academic, research and clinical services perspective of the department.
